The Joy of Irish Dance

Our Story

Celtic Hearts Irish Dance was established in 2011 by Martina Skehill and Mark Skehill.

Martina and Mark have been dancing from a young age and bring years of experience in both competitive and professional dancing.

They met whilst on tour dancing with Michael Flatley's Lord Of The Dance and the natural "next step" for them and passion was to pass on that "know-how" to the next generation of children who want to experience the joy and culture of Irish Dancing.

The School is based in Hertfordshire, England and offers Irish Dance classes for children from the age of 4 years.

Classes offer the chance to learn traditional Irish Dance Steps, Ceili team dances and modern "show numbers" for exhibitions.

At Celtic Hearts we encourage and prepare children to take part in competitions (Feis), regionally, nationally and internationally including the annual World Championships.

The school offers a place for everyone, should you choose to join for fun, fitness, make new friends or should you have dreams of being the next Michael Flatley. We will tailor your experience accordingly!

The class can also provide exhibitions - large or small - from local school fetes to larger corporate events.

The school is registered with “An Comisiun le Rinci Gaelacha” (Irish Dancing Commission) Dublin Ireland

"My daughter kitty has danced with Celtic Hearts since they formed. Mark and Martina have nurtured her love of Irish dancing making class a fun yet disciplined event! Kitty's enthusiasm coupled with Mark and Martina's dedication enabled her to dance as part of the Celtic Hearts Ceili team at the World Championships in London 2014. This experience was invaluable to her! Kitty learnt the importance of team work and built friendships that she will no doubt take into her teenage years. It gave her a sense of commitment and a drive to support and encourage younger dancers, building her own self esteem as well as theirs.

She enjoys going to class to see her “dance friends" and especially enjoys the various exhibitions the school are regularly booked to perform at.

Celtic Hearts has a real sense of teamwork. Mark and Martina's passion for Irish dance is evident in the time and effort they place in the children, so much so that they now feel like our very own "dancing family!

"My daughter has been dancing at the Celtic Hearts dancing school for three years. Her teachers have inspired her and motivated her to always try her best and put 100 percent effort into every lesson, exhibition and feis. She had never had Irish dancing lessons before and under their expert tuition, care and commitment she has made rapid progress, along with all the students in their school.

Their commitment to all their pupils astounds me. They support and encourage all of them in a positive way in an atmosphere that is relaxed and welcoming. My two younger children are also now having lessons and the same care and commitment is shown regardless of all their very differing abilities.

"Mark and Martina are a wonderful asset to Irish Dancing, both as dancers and teachers. They are dedicated, patient, passionate and professional .They have nurtured my daughter Jessica from a nervous novice into a confident, graceful Irish dancer. Their commitment and dedication has lead Jessica to be able to dance at the World Championships in London this year.

It is a pleasure to be part of the Celtic Hearts family."
